Naina Peak, also known as China Peak, is the highest point in Nainital. Tucked away inside dense oak and deodar forests, this short trek offers a quiet escape from the town’s bustle and rewards trekkers with expansive views of the Kumaon Himalayas. Ideal for beginners and leisure travelers, the trek can be comfortably completed within half a day.

  • Additional Information

Starting Point: Zoo Road / Naina Devi Temple Area
The trek begins from the upper stretches of Nainital near Zoo Road. As you leave the town behind, the surroundings quickly transition into a forested trail, setting the tone for a peaceful mountain walk.

The initial section of the trek is gradual and easy, making it suitable for first-time trekkers. The trail passes through thick oak and pine forests, with sunlight filtering through the trees and cool mountain air adding to the experience. This stretch allows ample time to settle into a comfortable walking rhythm.

As the trail progresses, the ascent becomes slightly steeper but remains manageable. The forest grows denser, and the surroundings are calm and quiet. Occasional breaks help maintain energy levels while enjoying the natural setting. Proper sport shoes are essential here due to uneven and rocky sections.

At an altitude of 2,615 meters, the summit of Naina Peak offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. On clear days, trekkers can spot prominent snow-covered Himalayan peaks, including Nanda Devi. The viewpoint also provides a bird’s-eye view of Nainital town below.

The descent follows the same route back to the base. Though quicker, this section requires attention while navigating loose stones and uneven patches. The return walk through the forest offers a relaxed conclusion to the trek

  • What to Expect

The Naina Peak trek is perfect for travelers looking for a short, scenic Himalayan hike without technical difficulty. With forest trails, mountain views, and a peaceful atmosphere, it remains one of the most rewarding experiences in Nainital.
