Jawai Hills is a picturesque location in Pali district of Rajasthan, surrounded by Jawai Bandh, grasslands, riverbed and grazing ground. The Hills of Jawai were shaped by lava millions of years ago and now the natural caves and rock shelters of Jawai Hills are home to leopards and Indian striped hyena.
The area named Jawai due to JAWAI dam which is situated near Sumerpur town in Pali District of Rajasthan state in India. The dam was built by Maharaja Umaid Singh of Jodhpur in 1957. The capacity of the dam is 7887.5 million cubic feet and covers an area of 102,315 acres of the cultivable command area. The height of the Dam is about 61.25 feet. Sei dam and kalibor dam are the feeder dams of the Jawai Dam. , it is the main water supply source of Jodhpur city and parts of Pali district.
The haunting beauty of the Jawai hills is renowned for Leopards and one of the best place in India to sight leopards in the day time. Jawai, India’s Leopard Hills are few wild places in India where leopards roam wild and free. The granite hills of Jawai have rare footage of Leopards living together like a family and can be seen at the stairs to the temple during the evening. Jawai, India’s Leopard Hills are the only place in India that has the highest density Leopards.
Best Time to visit Jawai
The best time to visit is from October to early April, when it's dry, warm and less humid (though nights can be chilly). Temperatures rise to around 38C from March onwards, before the monsoon season arrives in July. The rains usually last until the end of September.
How to Acess Jawai
By Air - Udaipur (127km away), Jodhpur (153km away) And Ahmedabad (280km Away) are the nearest airports. Both are served by internal flights from India's major international hubs, including Delhi and Mumbai (Bombay)
By Train - Udaipur is easily reached by rail from Ajmer, Chittorgarh, Ahmedabad and Delhi. From the station it's a 2 and a half hour journey to Jawai are, There are also limited services to Jawai Bandh station & Falna Station is just hardly 15 kms from Main Jawai attraction
