Kedarnath village is set in the magnificent Garhwal Mountains and is one of India's most respected temple attractions. The village, constructed around the famed Kedarnath temple, is located at 3,580 metres above sea level, near the Chorabari glacier, which is the source of the Mandakini river. The ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is made of unusually huge yet uniformly cut grey stone slabs. Within the temple, a conical rock formation is worshipped as Lord Shiva in his "Sadashiva" form. The Kedarnath temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is part of the Char Dham pilgrimage circuit and one of Lord Shiva's 12 Jyotirlingas in India. The Kedarnath mountain, Kedar Dome, and other Himalayan peaks stand behind the Kedarnath temple.
